Long Walk II: The End

Below, readers will find a number of entries, most of them submitted from the path. They tell the "rash and all" tale of a week’s hard walking along the steepest sections of the South West Coast Path. 135 miles in just 8 days when the overwhelming emotions were exhaustion and despair and when a sardine sandwich each lunchtime tasted better than ever imagined.

Needless to say, I swear now that I will never do it again. Despite the ultimate elation, I have no urge to walk on from Land’s End, along the south coasts of Cornwall and Devon, through Dorset, to the finishing line at Poole. Still, who knows how long it will be until I feel once more the pull of deep blue seas and wide open skies?

In case that never happens though, I would suggest that anyone who hasn’t yet had the opportunity to sponsor Skene and I, visit our sponsorship page to make a donation to Oxfam in recognition of the great sacrifices that we made this last week. So far we have raised around £720 which will go a long way towards improving the lives of Oxfam’s targets. However, it equates to just £2.50 per mile each – less than the minimum wage – so hit that link now and add to our total!

Photographs will follow soon but, in the meantime, entertain yourselves with albums compiled by Dan and Johnson.
