Jo's Secret Garden

Highs...

...have been few and far between so far this season.

Following relatively dry months in February, March and May, we were not terribly successful with either the flower garden or the vegetable patch.

At one point, various unidentified stalks in the compost heap were growing better than anything else!

Out of 20 packets of seeds, only a handful of poppies germinated.

And my overambitious planting in the kitchen garden led to the spring onions and the herbs being overwhelmed by radishes. The radishes themselves produced many leaves for curries and lovely white flowers. But no radishes.

Inside, succulents, cactii, the orchid and the Chlorophytum comosum (alright, it's a spider plant) are all flourishing - and flowering!

Next year, I intend to follow the advice of Beth Chatto's Dry Garden rigorously and create a Mediterranean paradise...
