Progress

Finally, all the crossing of fingers, begging of plants and despairing of success seems to have paid off, after the season started with a fantastic display of daffodils.

Our patio has now been installed for a year or so and has been the site of a number of barbecues. The patch once dominated by the pitto sporum is now sending forth rocket seedlings with spring onions and peas to follow soon.

Elsewhere, I have savagely pruned the Californian lilac to make way for the hitherto cramped acer. In the borders, the plants pinched from Lancashire, such as a sedum and Solomon's Seal, have established themselves and are flourishing in the recent wet weather.

Perhaps most remarkably, there are even buds on my Just Joey rose, the hydrangea and the teasle!

Now I just need the passionflowers to succeed...
